In October 2017, the Russian Railway Museum opened in St. Petersburg. The new museum complex belongs to the Russian Railways and is located near the Baltic Station. The museum presents the history of the railway transport in the whole country.
The exhibition shows models of the first Russian and foreign steam locomotives and carefully restored locomotives of the past century, a car of the famous Red Arrow express train, a cross-section of a steam locomotive, as well as military and special-purpose railway machines.
The museum complex consists of two buildings: an original steam locomotive depot of the Peterhof Railway of the 19th century and a new building designed specifically for this museum. Exhibition halls with almost 4,000 exhibits occupy more than 16,000 square meters.
