Contemporary Art in the Traditional Museum
September 28 – November 3, 2019
Contemporary Art in the Traditional Museum is an annual festival of contemporary art that has become a showcase of the PRO ARTE Foundation.
This is the oldest festival (est. 2000) uniting different museums of St Petersburg in one event. Each year several contemporary Russian and international artists get an opportunity to show their projects in large and small museums of the city. For one month the traditional museum spaces turn into contemporary art venues. The main goal of the festival is to bridge the gap between traditional culture and contemporary art, help the St Petersburg museums modernize, and attract broader public to contemporary art. Over the last 20 years over 200 projects were shown in 70 St Petersburg museums by artists from 14 countries.
The 15th festival “Contemporary Art in the Traditional Museum” will take place in St Petersburg from September 28 till November 3, 2019. Invited curator in 2019 is Dimitry Ozerov, head of Contemporary Art Department of the State Hermitage Museum.
All the projects in 2019 Festival are created by the graduates of the PRO ARTE’s School for Young Artists and will be located in the following museums:
· The Russian Railway Museum
· Museum of Arctic and Antarctic
