The festival uniting different museums of St Petersburg in one event was established in 2000. Since 2000 contemporary Russian and international artists working with different media get an opportunity to show their projects in large and small museums of the city. For one month the traditional museum spaces turn into contemporary art venues. Over the last 17 years 170 projects were shown in 70 St Petersburg museums by artists from 17 countries.
In 2017, the Festival will take place in eight museums of Petrogradskaya storona. Twenty eight artists from seven countries will take part in the festival presenting altogether twelve solo and group projects.
2017’s Festival visiting curator is Kathrin Becker, Head of the Video-Forum at the Neuer Berliner Kunstverein (n.b.k.) in Berlin, Germany. The theme of the 14th Festival is Facts & Fictions.
